The average operating temperature can run anywhere between 195 to 220 degrees Fahrenheit. Servicing your Cooling System

- Inspect the radiator, all fluid hoses, thermostat, water pump, and all connecting belts, the heater core, valve covers, and the radiator fan.

- Flush the entire cooling system.
- Install any new parts that may be needed.
- Refill the system with the proper type and volume of coolant.
The Warning Signs
Here are some warning signs you can look for that might help you decide if your coolant system needs to be serviced.
- Overheating: your car leaves you on the side of the road, refusing to start, with massive white clouds of steam pouring out from under the hood
- Always running hot: The engine temperature gauge in your vehicle always seems to ride up in or near the red zone or fluctuates rising and falling. This may be fixable with a simple radiator flush.
- Visible leaks: Obvious dripping or puddles left under your vehicle green or yellow.
- A sweet smell: Engine coolant has a very distinct sweet smell to it. If you smell maple syrup, it’s a good sign that coolant is leaking.
System Flush Recommendations
Your cooling system should be flushed at regular intervals. The owner’s manual should give a timeline for service. If you are experiencing any of the warning signs listed above, you should have the system checked by our mechanics right away. The engine coolant does not have an expiration date but over time it does lose some of its effectiveness. Most owners’ manuals recommend flushing the system every 30,000 – 40,000 miles or every three to five years whichever comes first.
Antifreeze vs. Coolant
